My Research

Does methamphetamine abuse increase a person's risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes?

Recent research has found neurotransmitter changes associated with Type 2 Diabetes. Similar neurotransmitter changes are seen with methamphetamine abuse. This gives rise to the need for testing this target group that may be at a higher risk for developing the disease. In my research proposal I hypothesize that the chronic methamphetamine user will be more likely to have higher blood glucose levels associated with Type 2 diabetes. [Read Full Paper]

The transition into adulthood is a process where an individual becomes free of parental supervision. This can be especially difficult for an individual with a disability. The Community Connect West Adult Day Center is designed specifically to assist people with disabilities in achieving and maintaining an independent lifestyle. Presented, "Change, Blindness," at the Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium, California State University Channel Islands

Along with two colleagues, I presented our research study on Change Blindness. A phenomenon that occurs when a person fails to notice large changes in their visual environment. We found that Change Blindness occurs as result of our limited short term memory.

Presented my project, "Juvenile Diabetes in Elementary School"

The Americans With Disabilities Act requires schools to provide reasonable accommodations in order that every child receives an appropriate education. This requires special attention be given to a child with type 1 diabetes. Parents, teachers, and the school nurse must coordinate blood glucose monitoring and insulin treatment throughout the day. Self Esteem & the Influence of Self Efficacy (My Research Study)

Self esteem is an important topic to study because of it's subjectivity. Aside from the influence that socioeconomic status and poor health has on self esteem the biggest influence may be self-efficacy. In my research study I examine how much self esteem is effected by locus of control, social support and self efficacy. The results identify the influence of self efficacy to be statistically significant. [Read Full Paper]

Is There A Correlation Between Neuroticism & Social Support?

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the Big Five personality trait of neuroticism and the amount of social support one received with this trait. The research for this topic is important for helping to asses if a client is receiving enough social support from others around them. If people have an opportunity to understand others that are not quite as easily understood, it will make for a greater sense of belonging and reduce feelings of isolation. [Read Full Paper]
