Hi my name is Andy Lepe and I’m currently in my senior year as a Studio Art Major at California State University, Channel Islands. I was born in Oxnard California and currently live with my wife Sarah and our miniature dachshund, Bailey in Port Hueneme, CA.
While attending CSUCI i’ve been focusing on understanding the basic elements of art and getting inspired by lines, shapes and color. My orderly abstract compositions examines the visual mathematics of structured geometric polygons. Mathematics has always been interesting to me, but in this body of work it’s not my main focus. I think more of math as a tool that I pick up and apply intuitively to my art making process. Through the proximity of the geometric forms, which appeared to be together, one may also feel that they are pulling apart. I enjoy the idea of clam, floating objects. Their apparent movement is a slow dance—magical, playful and mesmerizing. They invite the viewer not to contemplate them as a clustered composition, but as a frozen moment in time.
